I was just digging into who pays how much tax and who pays their share as you will see in this blog.
There is more data about taxes on the internet than you might think, but few people ever examine it, It can give one some real insight about our whole governmental system. I am sure that most people do not realize or believe that just 1% of tax payers pay 45.8% of our Federal income tax. That means that 99% of complaining tax payers pay approximately the other half. It gets better. The lower 50% only pay 2.3% of Federal taxes. That is a drop in the bucket.
The data above is for year 2023. How do you think we are doing? Is the share of who pays Federal taxes getting fairer or not? What do you think? Here is the same data from tax year 2000. Back just 4 years ago the top 1% only paid 34% compared 45.8% in 2023. For the record, back in 2000 the bottom 50% paid 5% or twice what they paid just 4 years later.
What I was looking for was at what percentage of tax payers actually pay their share and I could not find that number. It looks to me like no more than 10% of tax payers actually end up paying their share, If that is true, then 90% do not pay their share and it is getting worse.
If you hear a friend complain about paying their share, you should pop in and share a few facts with them and stress that our government is too big and needs to start spending less and stop borrowing additional money beyond what they collect in taxes.
