Illegal Immigrants and Schools

 I think you know my views on illegal immigration., but there is even more that I will explain in this blog.

Currently a large percentage of the illegal immigrants are school age.  Under our current policy, we let those underaged illegal immigrants attend our public schools for free.  Realize that our average student costs us about $14,000 per year per student  These illegal immigrants pay exactly zero toward the cost of our schools, yet they attend for free.  In many states we allow illegal immigrants to attend our state colleges as if they were a resident of the state while they charge "out of state tuition" for citizens of other states.  How stupid is that?  I think that if a legal student from another country attends one of our state colleges that they have to pay extra tuition.  

I know there are a lot of people who see illegal immigrant students as victims of some kind and they want to help them.  The problems is that they are not helping those people with their own money.  They are spending my money and that of their neighbors.  Out of sone side of their mouths they want people to pay their share of taxes, but on the other it is clear that they are not paying their share.  Many of the groups who are promoting these illegal immigrants are called "NGO" or "non-government organizations".  Most are related to some religious group or liberal organization.  These groups are partially funded by our own tax money in some way.  I have found it difficult to get details on these organizations or their funding.

What we need to start doing is not allowing these illegal immigrants to attend our schools at any level. For many this would look like we are hurting these poor kids, but helping them is also encouraging more and more to immigrate here.  I know a lot of liberals will tell you that we need these illegal immigrants to be trained for our many opened jobs.  Further, they will tell you that many will become Engineers or Doctors what we need.  That may be true, but it is not worth the total cost to our country and our quality of life.  I can see why a poor young person would want to get into the USA illegally in order to attend a good school that was not available to them in their home country, but that is not a good enough reason to illegally immigrate into the USA.

It has gotten so bad is some areas that schools have had to accommodate student that do not speak English.  They even have to buy special books for them.  What is the real logic of this?  I thought that teaching our own kids was why we pay such high school taxes.  You need to contact members of your own school boards and ask them to exclude students that illegally immigrated here,  Contact you state level representatives too.  You might even run for office yourself since we already know how those in office are dealing with this serious problem.

Make some noise and get yourself heard. 

Algorithm University

 I have not been very impressed with the recent graduates from our universities and I think that I know the reason why.  I will explain in this blog.

Do you know what an "Algorithm" is?  Check out the dictionary.  It is some kind of procedure or recipe that when followed will produce some kind of predicted end product.  When you were in grade school and learned how to do "long division", what you were learning was an "Algorithm" on how to divide a number by any other number.  The teacher did not invent the algorithm that they were teaching you.  It was invented by some "smart" person many years ago.  I don't think your teacher ever invented anything nor do most people.

If you know all of the possible mathematic algorithms, you still may still not be able to solve a word problem.  You may not be smart enough to invent an algorithm, but you could be smart enough to apply an algorithm.  When you go to college, it does not make you any smarter.  It only allows you to learn or memorize different algorithms invented by really smart people. 

Medical schools are among the worse when it comes to teaching algorithms.  It is almost like a chiefs school where they teach how to cook different recipes.  Recently the medical schools have gotten into AI or artificial intelligence.  AI is just more complicated algorithms that would be harder to follow if one tried to write them down on paper and then try to memorize them.  Smart people can invent computers that can operate the AI algorithms for doctors.  If you know how to operate a computer, you could do as well as the average doctor in diagnosing your problem.

To give you an idea how significant smart people are to the human race and how the algorithms they invent are so important to you and me, look at the New World.  When Columbus discovered America, there were more people here than in Europe.  They had a much better food supply and were much taller than Europeans, but they did not have "iron" for tools or weapons.  Where did Europe get their "iron" for tools and weapons?  Someone invented the process or algorithm to smelt iron and all the other people used that algorithm to prosper.

What the world needs are more really smart or "lucky" people and a recognition that our colleges mostly only provide training on how to operate algorithms invented by others.  We need more inventors and really smart people and our colleges are not providing them. 

Horizon

 Let's examine the "horizon" of Democrats and Republicans in this blog.

First, what is a "horizon"?  It is the length of time that a person uses when they analyze a personal decision.  We all know that the Chinese have a very long "horizon".  Think of their decision to build the Great Wall of China?  That took several generations to build it.  It was built one brick at a time and they were willing to keep those bricks coming for many generations.  That is a lot different for the USA.

Farmers naturally have to have a longer horizon than city people.  If they breed a cow, it takes 9 months before they have a calf.  It then takes at least two more years before they can get any milk out of that cow.  For a farmer who grows nuts, it takes even longer.  Even backyard gardeners have to wait for the seeds that they plant to produce anything they can eat.  The same is for flowers.  

Now look at people who live in cities.  They don't wait years for a cow to provide them with milk.  They go down to the store and buy a gallon of milk.  The same for nuts that they need to bake cookies.  Even for their flowers, they go down to the nursery and buy full grown plants that already have flowers on them.  They don't start with seeds!  The horizon for a typical city person is only a fraction of that for a typical farmer.

Why is this business about horizon so significant?  Why does this make city people so different from rural people when it comes to the type of government they prefer?  Most of us want a government that makes decisions that "agree" with what we would have done.  If you notice, the Democrats in government make decisions that will help them in the next election and ignore the impact that they will have months or years in the future.  The only exception that I know of is with Global Warming.  They are willing to starve us so that the Earth can support more population in the future. The Republicans are more concerned about how excess spending today will cause inflation in the future.  Similarly Republicans see allowing illegal immigration over our Southern border lowering the quality of our lives in the future.  Democrats see it as helping some poor person today without any concern about the future.

If you look at a map of how people voted in this last election, you will see that most of the Democrat votes came from the big cities and urban areas while the Republican vote was more dominate in the rural areas.  On the face of it, this appears to be proof of what I am saying.  When I see a situation like this last election, I ask "why" and try to figure it out.  In this case, it appears clear that one of the major causes is the difference in "horizon" of the Democrats and Republicans.  You could look at kids in school and see which one do better and with ones do worse and you would find that the two groups have different "horizons".  

Think about it!  What can be done about it?  Democrats need to get a longer "horizon" as does our whole country.  China who has a very long "horizon" is going to eat our lunch.

Perfection

 Most of us think that "Perfection" is not only a good goal, but the optimum goal.  I fell for that idea too. This blog will show you why and how and why this is a very dangerous goal!

In a prior blog I proposed the concept of "brittleness" and I thought that I did a good job on it, but now I see how "perfection" guarantees the failure due to "brittleness". Here is a simple example.  What if the goal was to get to the top of a flag pole and to stand on top of the flag pole on one foot.  If that is not a "perfect" goal, I don't know what would be.  Think of the challenge that would stimulate in a society?  In a way, it could be equated to the "end game" and that is exactly what it is.

Remember one of my blogs where I proposed the idea of "good enough" or "worth it"?  Those ideas are totally opposed to "perfect"'  Why would anyone have an objective of "good enough"?  I used to ask the same question myself. Now that I have looked deeper into the concept and realized that it created more and more "brittleness"  I became very worried as you should also be. This is not some abstract concept. it seems to be happening all around us right now.

Look at the whole "green movement".  The goal is to save the world and stop the changing of weather here on Earth. We all should know by just looking around that the Earth's weather has been changing over the last millions of years.  Who came up with the idea that it need to stop changing? Some nut! 

Where did oil and coal come from?  Is the Earth now producing oil and coal?  If so, where and how? The only conclusion is that the weather and conditions on Earth must have been different from today. Further. to be different then the weather on the Earth must have changed, so why is it so bad now that weather appears to be changing?  If it changes, what could be the end results?  Could it be better, worse or the same?  Is the conditions for life here on Earth better or worse than it has ever been?  Who knows.  If the climate or weather was "perfect", exactly what would that be?  Could the Earth then feed more humans?  We now have over 8 billion people.  If we had more, would that be better?  What if the weather was "perfect", I guess that we would also have the optimum or maximum number of us humans here on Earth.  Would that be great or "perfect".  If the Earth then had just one year where the weather was bad, how many millions of us humans would die?  See how "brittle" the Earth would be if we ever got to the state that the green movement people seem to want.  Think about it.

Perfection might appear to be the highest goal. but it is like the dog that chases the car.  What happens to the dog when he actually does catch the car?  Think about it.      

Griner Exchange

 Here are a few points about the Griner exchange in this blog.

We need to look at the Russians angle in this exchange.  Remember my post on "Decisions"?  I used to teach decision theory in a major university and know a little about decision making.  I pointed out that one of the most common decision errors was to not consider " doing nothing".  Doing nothing does not mean "for ever.". In the future the decision may be revisited with new conditions.  Why has that point been so silent?  You tell me.  Is the Biden administration that stupid or is our public so stupid that they can be manipulated?

From the Russian point of view, they knew that they had a "4 pointer" with Griner and that meant they had the upper hand in negotiations with the Biden administration.  Don't know what a "4 pointer" is?  Well, I will tell you'  Griner was"

(4) Bad mothed the USA

The Russians knew that a "4 pointer" was a lot more valuable than someone who was just a soldier and that they could get back one of the worst humans on Earth in an exchange for a "4 pointer" from Biden's administration.  I guess that the Russians are a lot smarter than us Americans.
