If you have been following the situation in Wisconsin with public employee unions, you may be intersted it this one. What Governort Walker wants to do is to only limit the areas where public employees can negotiate. Just limit it to their pay checks. He understands that work rules and payments years in the future are not an area where public employees have any business. A rule that I would like to see is one where any contract is limited to the term of the person who signed the contract. That means, if the guy who signed off on the contract lost his office, any contract that he negotiated would be void. Right now what we have is bunch of elected officials who sign off on contracts with unions and then they leave office and don't worry about the mess that they made. When I was a kid, my mother made us kids clean up our own messes and that is how we should deal with polititions now.
I watched our public school teachers picket a local store. I don't know why they picked this particular store, but they were out front with posters asking for money to pay for the Wisconsin polititians who were living in motels in Illionis. As you might guess they did not get a very friendly reception for local tax payers. I used to teach in a major university, but it was in the engineering department. No free lunch or free rides there. We had subjects that had prerequisits and home workd so most college students stayed away. What I have observed after all these years is that people who take these Micky Mouse majors feel that because they have a college degree that they have "worth". When they find that what they took in college did not cut any ice in the real world, they revolted. They went to the unions to get what they felt they deserved. You know the majors. Polictical Science, Communications, Psychology, English, History, Art Appreciation, Performing Arts, Socialogy, Philosophy and Elementary Education. These majors are not real majors or degrees. They are at best recreation majors where our kids go to have a good time and where they can shoot off their mouths based on the information that they have accumulated in public school. If you figure that they have spent at least 12 or 13 years with an adult who also spent 8 hours a day with kids of average age or about 10 or 12 years old. This is an enviornment that anyone with a brain would avoid, but this is where our kids spent much of their lives.
It is also intereting how a person who has chosen a path or who has commited a large part of their lives believing in something how difficult it is for them to recognize when they have made a serious mistake and have the courage to change. Few people are strong enough to recongnize an error and correct it. Look at drunks or drug addiction. These people know they made a serious mistake, but they are too weak to change. It is the same with most of our kids. We made them sit in those classes listening to people who we would never invite for dinner and then we can't figure out what happened to our kids. Look in the mirror. Isn't that why home schoolers do so much better than kids in our public schools? I said this before, but what we need to do is to give school vouchers to parents who what to home school their kids. If we did this, we would save money and we would end up with better education population. Did you ever read the personal history of John Stewart Mills? He was home schooled by his father. He went to the office at the East India Company and did his schooling and home work on the edge of his father's desk. John Stewart Mills was of the best educated people in history. Check it out and it did not cost a penney in tax money.
