This title is and old old saying that we need to remember today. I will try to explain the importance of this saying in this blog.
There is another saying that we also need to remember and that is, "Don't bet the farm". This one is clear to most. When you bet the farm, you might lose and if that happens, your whole family will face starvation. The farm might require a lot of work and the rewards may be small, but it still beats staring to death.
In life as in a country, there are many decision opportunities that come and go. You can either enter into that decision situation or you can "do nothing". That means that just because a decision situation arises, does not mean you have to participate. It is common practise for con men to tell you that this or that decision has to be made right now or the window will change and you will be cut out. The implication is that this decision opportunity will never never come again. Well, we know that for ever is a very long time and that the opportunity just may come u; again and the situation may be different and better for you.
It just happens that with this up comming election, are in a serious decision making situation. On one side we are being asked to bet the farm and on the other side we are being asked to keep doing what we have been doing for the past couple of hundred years. One side claims that this "new" direction will be great for the country and it citizens while the other side says, "not so fast". Considering that the democracy has worked for over two hundred years better than any other know democracy or form of government, mean we have been doing somethings right. Who knows about this, "new direction"?
It looks to me like we have a lot more to loose at this point than we have to gain. We also know that the closer one gets to an :optimum point", the difficult, costly and risky it becomes. This is all given that in no place in the world can anyone show that this "new direction" is any better. On that basis, it has to be clear to any thinking person than it better to keep on doing what we have been doing for the past two hundred years than risk the farm on this claimed "new direction".
How can it be that difficult to determine how to vote? Vote for the proven ideas and reject the "new direction". The "new direction" is different in everyone's mind because it is so nebulus. Vote for "do nothing".
