It seems that Tony Fouche has changed again. Why did he get it so wrong in the first place? I will explain in this blog.
For a very long time, I have been down on teachers and now I have extended that to doctors as well. Why is that? These people are all college graduates and you would think that they are among the smartest of us humans, but that may not be the case. Do you remember back in school when you were taught math? Math is more important today than any time in human history and the USA ranks 40th in the world. Did you notice or were you one of those students who could add, subtract and multiply faster and more accurately than any of your piers? Did you also notice that when you got to the famous "word problem" that your company thinned out? Did you ever wonder why so many kids did well in math until they got to the "word problem" when it was the basic objective of your math class to teach you how to solve "word problems"? This is just a short story of how our education system has failed. It is no different for doctors. They learn a similar manner, adding and subtracting, but when it comes to the "word problem" they bomb out too.
The bottom line is that some people can memorize "patterns", like spelling English words, but can't write a simple paragraph. Is learning English a problem of spelling or is it a problem of thinking and writing or communicating your thoughts in writing? How can you get an "A" in spelling, but can't write a simple sentence? Is this starting to sound a little like Tony Fouche? He seems to know how to add and spell, but can't seem to get the correct answer to a real life health problem. Here is the evidence.
When asked by Senator Kennedy why he felt so strongly that the Covid-19 virus originated in the Wet Market, Fouche said that according to all the science, when these types of things happen that it is always a case of the virus "jumping" to an intermediate animal. The fact is that if you read 100 medical books that were written in the past 100 years, all would make this same statement. Science is very good at analyzing historical data, but very poor at predicting the future. Notice that when those 100 books were written, there were no labs doing virus modification, but there are today and one is only a few miles from the wet market. Why didn't Tony Fouche know that and take that fact into account? The reason was that there was no reference to that fact in one of those 100 medical books he read.
Now it seems that Tony Fouche has woken up and noticed the virus lab only a few miles away and now it is a "possibility". Notice when President Trump suggested that the virus lab was a possibility, most of the science community shot the idea down. It appears they also read the same 100 medical books that Tony Fouche had and came to the same conclusion for the same reason. What we need are doctors who can solve "word problems" and our colleges and universities are not producing them. Real mathematicians can solve word problems as can real engineers. Getting an "A" on a test by answering all kinds of "Yes" and "No" questions is not a test of whether you can solve real problems and we all know it. The world we live in is not a "Yes" and "No" place and we all have to start understanding that and holding our politicians to that same standard.
