Have you noticed the total silence on our problem with high school drop out rates? Per the Internet, we rank 19th in high school "completion" rate. We have about 1.2 million of our kids dropping out of high school each year. In a study in San Francisco they found that 94% of the young people murdered, were high school drop outs. The overall graduation rate in the USA is only about 60% and in the city of Detroit, it is less than 25%. As I have blogged in the past, how are we going to survive in the world if we have one of the poorest educated populations in the world. We rank about last in every category except incarceration. Compared to Canada, we have at least 10 times the percentage of our population in prisons. Blacks are 7 times more likely to be in prison than whites and Hispanics about twice as likely.
When Representative Kern of Oklahoma was asked why Blacks do not earn as much as whites, she said that it was simple. "They just do not want to work as hard as Whites". She was a school teacher and had many opportunities to observe differences between Blacks and Whites. Those look like clear facts to me.
According to one statistic, there are more Blacks in prison today than there were slaves in 1850. How is that?
I have heard from thousands of Black preachers, but none of them ever said that Blacks are their own problem. They have always excused Black conduct on the basis that some where in the distant past, they had a slave ancestor. 99% of Americans can trace back to some kind of slave connection or indentured relationship. Under the law, we are all born equal, but that does not mean we are all the same. Some are tall and some are short. Some are white and some are black, but we are all still equal under the law. That is as long as the laws are equally enforced and that is one of the things that concerns me about Obama as I have blogged.
In California, it costs over $45,000 per year to keep a person in prison. If that is the case, Blacks are costing the state of California far too much. 70% of the prison population is Black. That is a fact too. The reason is simple, Blacks are the ones doing most of the crime. Why is it that Canada has such a low crime rate compared to the USA? Maybe that is why Canada is doing so well economically and their level of education is ranked 3rd in the western world while the USA is about 25th?
Before we are going to solve the Black social and economic problem, we have to first start talking about it. Blacks have to stop calling everyone who brings up the problem a racist. That kind of excuse talk is not getting us anywhere. We need to deal with the simple facts and address real solutions. This is not a case of spending more money. What is needed is a major change in attitude.
