It seems like there is no end to the ways that our public schools have changed for the worse. Here is another.
If you have been watching, you know that our public schools have changed and it has not been for the better. Much of this change has taken place like "grass growing". Most of us were unaware of the change and many actually thought that our schools had been getting better. This was because more and more kids were on the honor roll. How many times have you seen bumper stickers claiming that "my kid is on the honor roll". This was all a scam because the teachers were giving out good grades just to keep parents from finding out how bad our schools had actually become. Were you a parent taken in by this scam?
The point that I want to make is that home schooled kids actually do better on average than those in public schools. Why is that? Rather than try to figure out exactly why, why don't we just accept the fact? If we do that, maybe we can improve the education of our children. Here is my big complaint. The average cost per kid in our public schools is about $13,000 per year. That money does not fall from trees. It is part of the taxes that most pay. Even if some comes from Washington DC, it is still part of the taxes paid by you and me. Every time a parent decides to home school one of their children, it saves the tax payers $13,000. That is a lot of money. If the parent does this from K-12, we are talking about $169,000! That is not pocket change! If you were to put that money in the bank, you would be talking about over $250,000 when your child finished high school. What if we had a system where that savings for the tax payers was paid to your kid as a bonus for being home schooled?
What I am getting around to is the fact that if more parents were to home school their kids, it would improve the education of our children and that is exactly what we need. Do you know anything that our education system is doing to encourage home schooling? I don't. I think that our public schools actually discourage home schooling. I hear cries that more home schooling would mean that many teachers could lose their jobs and that is bad. My position is that if these teachers are so smart then they should have no problem finding another job that is not being paid for by tax payers. Think about that? Our kids would get a better education while the tax payers would be able to keep more of their hard earned money. That sounds like a win-win to me.
What if the school gave just 50% of their money to families who home school? That would encourage more home schooling. It would also end up saving money for the school too. The public school would still have $6,500 for each home schooled kid that they could apply to the kids who remained in public school. Again, this sounds like a win-win.
We all know how teachers "claim" the performance of their best students. They "claim" that they are the reason why these high performers do so well. They forget that the average IQ of their class is 100 and half of their students are below 100. If you cut thru all the BS, what the teachers are worried about is that the higher IQ kids will shift to home schooling, leaving the lower IQ students who are more demanding to the teacher in their classes. Notice how teachers avoid "poor" schools. They all want to teach in the "good" schools. This sounds to me like the teachers are "not" the reason or the cause of "good" schools.
We should all start thinking about how we can encourage more home schooling. Think about this. In most home schools there is only one or two students. That sounds to me like a very small school. I can recall when we had more country one room school houses. Those were small schools! As our schools have consolidated into mega schools, they have actually gotten worse. Big is not good when it come to schools! In my old country school, they did not offer Latin or Black Studies, but they did do a good job in reading, writing and arithmetic! In a prior blog I pointed out that many of our high school graduates can not read.
Notice that President Trump's son is being home schooled. The same was true of many of our wealthiest citizens. Why do you think that is the case?
