Difficulty Raising The Median Family Income

In prior blogs, I blogged that the basic USA objective should be to raise the median family income.  The problem is this is very difficult to do.  That is what this blog is about.

First, we need to understand at least "two" simple facts.
(1)  There is a trend that the world wide human economy is shifting toward intellectual value added vs physical value added.
(2)  The human race has a "normal" distribution of intellect with 50% with IQ's below 100.  That is not going to change.

If a country's economy is under developed, it is likely that they have "not" utilized 100% of their intellect, but in an economy that has developed to near its limit, most of its intellect has already been exploited.  That is the case with countries like the USA and some in Europe, but not in places like China.

If you look at countries whose median family income is higher than the USA, you find some interesting facts.  Take Switzerland and New Zealand, both have had very limited immigration laws for a long time.  They have focused on reducing immigrants of low skill and low intellect or those who have little chance of ending up with incomes above the median.  I know that this sounds brutal to some, but what is the alternative?  Remember that the priority of each countries government is to consider it's citizens before foreigners and that is what they have done.

Given that a country has gotten in to the situation where they have a large number of people at the bottom of the economic ladder who have little chance of moving up, how do they correct the situation?  Many of us feel that the USA can "grow" out of our current situation.  I am here to show you that this will be very very difficult to do and here is why.  Look at (1) above!  There is a world wide trend toward intellect being more valuable than physical work.  That is a fact, but here is how it works.  With growth in the economy, much more takes place with those above the median than it does below the median.  It is like being in a race where those who are already ahead can run faster than those behind.  As a result, if the race continues, those at the rear can "never" catch up, only get farther behind.  In real life, what happens?  Those at the back drop out of the race.  Does that sound familiar?

Look at (2) above and realize that some of the children of those below the median can have intellect that is well above the median and thus can move up too or above the median family income.  We hear stories of this type of thing happening all the time and it is good, but is it enough to significantly change the situation?  I do not know, but if it does, it will take a very long time.

Here is another key point.  If you are trying to get ahead, you have to have a strategy of "not" going backwards.  Remember the old saw, "You can't start going up until you stop going down first."  It is the same with raising the median family income.  What are some of the things that pull down the median family income?  This is not a complete list, but it will give you the idea.
(1)  Crime
(2)  Poor education system
(3)  Weak family structure
(4)  Low work ethic
(5)  Wasteful government expenditures
(6)  Restrictive business regulations
(7)  Liberal immigration policies

If most of the above could be eliminated, I feel that it may be possible to gradually "grow" out of our current situation and raise the median family income to a level higher than our current 38th place in the world.  Do we have the conviction to do what is needed to raise our median family income?
