I have been watching the news and have wondered why they never talk about "fathers". I will explore this point in this bog.
It is easy to feel sorry for some poor person. We hear those concerns all the time. We have the Humane Society who is concerned and feels sorry for poor dogs and cats and many support their efforts. How can you not want to feed a hungry cat or dog? If you rescue a dog or cat from the Humane Society, what are the rules? They require that the animal to be castrated first. They seem to be aware that if you want to actually help those poor dogs and cats you have to address the "cause". If they just gave those poor cats and dogs food, the dogs and cats would just keep on breeding more and make their problem even worse. Is it really any different with people? I don't think so.
First, we need to look at the alternatives and chose the best ones. Like many decisions in the social area, there often is not a "perfect" answer. We need to use the words "good enough" a lot more often in our discussions. In the case of the human over population problems, we need to look at the root cause. In this case it is an easy search. The problem is over breeding and that takes two people, a male and a female. Over breeding has at least two basic causes:
(1) Breeding too many children
(2) Start breeding at too young of an age
In many cases the above two causes are compounded by the breeders not being in a position to care properly for their child or even worse not even trying as in the case of the father abandoning the mother and their child. This leads me to ask, "where is the father?" Well, where is the father and why has he acted so irresponsibly? There is even another problem and that is, "why has society allow the father to get away with abandoning his child?"
If society really wants to improve the quality of life for our citizens, just like the Humane Society wants to improve the quality of life for cats and dogs, then things have to change. I am not recommending that we have to go so far as casteration, but it should still be reserved as a possibility. In some social groups in some cities of the USA the rate of abandonment by fathers of their children can run as high as 90%. How can that be, you might ask, but the fact is that it is the case and what should society do about it? It does not appear that it can be solved by passing laws, so what should we do? Right now society is totally silent on the subject and that has to change. Every social institution needs to rethink our missions and that includes, churches, schools, professional sports, clubs, charities, entertainment and the news. If all of these groups keep looking away, the human race will decay into a total hell hole. These groups have to make it impossible for irresponsible fathers to function in our society. The reward for fathers doing the right thing is to have children who are proud of their fathers and the country in total.
I am waiting to see the first group who steps forward and confronts the basic cause of most of our social problems which is irresponsible fathers. The President might even start giving out awards for fathers who stand up to their responsibilities. That would also be a big first step. Your job will be to ask the simple question when you see a poor young person or even a young adult who is a burden to society and that is "where is the father?"
PS--Who is the father? Society should demand that the father be identified on every out of wedlock birth and every out of wedlock abortion. Any women who does not or can not identify the father should be required to be sterilized. Any father who does not pay50% of the expenses of an abortion or care for their born child should be subject to jail. We need to stop looking the other way and face up to the problem. As an alternative to jail, these fathers maybe subject to the military draft and serve for some minimum period.
