With all the debate about the "value" of the dreamers, someone needs to address the debate with a few facts. That sounds like me and that is what this blog is about.
The discussion from the left seems to assume that the dreamers are of a better quality than our own kids. We all know that there are serious questions about the quality and work ethics of our own kids and are concerned about our future as a result. If that is the case, why do so many from the left feel that these dreamers will be such a value to median quality of life in our future? I might agree to let those dreamers stay who can pass entrance tests for one of our major medical or engineering schools. If you look at our own kids, only about 10% can meet the entrance requirements while 50 years ago the number was at least twice that. What makes anyone think that these dreamers are of a higher quality than our own kids?
The median family income and the quality of life for the median has been going down while those with the intellect and skills needed for the future are making big gains. Those are the facts and the world wide trend toward more technology is not going to change. World wide and here in the USA we are all going to be affected. Back in 1915 Henry Ford was able to pay a good wage for a worker who could not read or write, but who could screw on hub caps fast. We have machines to do that now so that job is gone and gone for ever. It is my position that these dreamers are of a lower quality than our own kids and thus will lower the median family income and quality of life faster than it is now going down. The only logical strategy is to "slow" the rate that our median family income's quality of life goes down. More immigrants and more dreamers are only going to make the decline go faster!
Who really pays their share of taxes? Did you ever think about that? We all know that 10% of tax payers pay about 90% of all taxes and 50% don't pay anything. Where do you think the 50%-50% point is? My guess is that your family would have to make around $150,000 per year. If we let in immigrants and dreamers who don't make that much, they don't pay their share. More of them will make us poorer. Do you want to know what the median family income is now for Latinos? The overall average for everyone is only about $50,00 and Latinos are about half of that at $25.000. You can find a few who make more, but we need to deal with the average or median, not those few exceptions. For example, Asians earn over three times that of Latinos and thus pay significantly more tax. Do you want to let in Asian dreamers? I don't think that there are very many of those.
We all have to be honest and realize that this USA belongs to all of us and that it is our responsibility to assure that the future for our children is as good as we can make it. I know that many of you feel sorry for these dreamers, but how about your own kids? Realize that the dreamers have broken the law and are here illegally and are not citizens with the same rights as your children. It is all of our responsibility to obey the law and make sure that other do as well. Which other laws on the books do you also think we should ignore? How about raping your daughter? How about stealing your car? If you are honest, you have to agree that we need to obey all laws or legally try to change them.
If you have been reading my other blogs, you will notice that I have a simple objective and that is to make the future better for my children by doing what ever I can to keep the median family income from going down or at least going down as slow as it can. I test all immigration decisions against that simple objective. You should think about your own objectives before you jump into trying to make decisions about whether current government policies are correct or not.
