Pro Football is the number one spectator sport in the United States. We all know that don't we? Well, there is a lot more to this story than you might think and that is the point of this blog.
What is it about pro football that captures the interest of so many people? I think that it is different for most people, but there are some things that are the same and that is what I want to talk about here. How is the game played? Each team tries to beat the other team by any "legal" means. We all know that they have trick plays and fake the ball to different backs to throw the other team off. They mix up their plays so that the other team can not key on any one player. Does all this sound honest or fair? To a liberal, they seem to want to demand that every thing be "fair" and "equal", but we know that there is nothing about pro football that is either fair or equal.
When the teams select and pay their players, is that equal or fair. To all the football fans is seems to be clearly fair. Now, you have to ask why any liberal would ever watch a pro football game if he knew that each teams was trying their best to beat the other team? Look at the players. Any team manager only picks the "best" players. He never picks a player just because of his religion or economic back ground. Further, he does not pay all the players the same. He pays his best players more than he pays his poorer players. Does that sound like being fair?
I am still trying to figure out why liberals watch pro football if they think so differently about how the games is played or how the players are treated. I think it might be a mental "time out". That is a period where the liberal can come out of their shell for a short period of time and enjoy what conservatives enjoy 24/7. Can you think of any other reason that so many liberals would enjoy watching pro football?
At the water cooler at work, do you hear liberals discussing the Sunday game like conservatives do? I don't think so. It has been my experience that liberals can handle the short "time out" that it takes to watch a game, but can not live the experience for the whole week like a conservative. You have to admit that in pro football the axiem is "merit" and that "merit" is what is appreciated and rewarded. In pro football, no one cares about your color, your economic background or what school you graduated from, even if you did graduate from some school. Conservatives are so used to judging people on the basis of "merit" that they do not have any problem with the basic structure of pro football. I know that most of you never looked at pro football like this and never saw the contradiction between pro football and liberal thinking. I hope that this short blog might open your eyes a little and when you are visiting with your friends that you will point this out!
