I was talking to a group of friends, one of which, was a typical liberal. This person challenged the rest of the group by asking, "If you don't like Obamacare then what is the Republicans answer to our problem with so many of our people being without good health insurance". I think that he was expecting some monster program run out of Washington DC to come from us conservatives. We all said that "doing nothing was better than Obamacare". Again, this liberal challenged that "doing nothing was not acceptable". The group could see that this typical liberal had a very serious "blind spot" when it comes to public policy. Here is how the conversation went.
Out of no where this liberal stated that we have one of the worst health care systems in the world. We tried to pin him down, but he kept jumping to different points without any basis He did not seem to want to stay on the subject until the group could sort out the different aspects and present different views. I can only conclude that this person had such a weak grasp of the subject that his view could not stand up to the light of day.
I tried to develop the point that "doing nothing" is an important alternative in any decision situation, but the person just could not grasp the simplicity of this important point. As I pointed out in a prior blog, this close minded attitude seems to be a typical human failure when it comes to decision making. Several in the group pointed out that it is better to do nothing than to do something that just made the situation worst, but again this typical liberal responded with a closed mind. I already knew that most liberals thought this way, but I felt that with the right presentation of the facts that they may change their minds. I am very sorry to have to conclude that once a person buys into the liberal "do gooder" mind set that it is next to impossible to ever bring them back to reality thru simple logic.
This point only shows how serious it is for our country when we turn over the minds of our children to the unionized school teachers and college professors. The people who help shape the minds of our kids are at least 90% Democrats and liberals. These are the same people who cry out for "diversity" yet they are mostly union members, Democrats and liberals. They are just as blind to this fact as my friend was above.
Like most problems, the first step is to admit there is a problem and Democrats have not gotten to this first point yet. There is no point in discussing solutions until the other party can admit that there is even a problem. Regarding the minds of our kids, only a very few conservatives realize how serious the problem in our schools is and thus we can not expect any serious discussion. Like Obamacare, our schools have gotten worse as they have gotten larger and controlled more centrally. The one room school house did a better job than what we have now even with our greater spending. Obamacare is going down exactly the same road. I think that I could say the same about Mega-Churches. Bigger is not better and the "guy behind the tree" does not know more than you do about what is good for you nor does he know better how to spend your money.
If you think this blog has wondered, think again. There is a common thread that goes thru all of this and that is "Bigger is not better". 325 million minds solving their own problems is much better than a dozen minds in Washington DC trying to tell us all what is good for us. Think about it? It is real simple and what we don't need are big complex systems to solve simple problems.
