How is that for a title? It is a case for "connecting the dots" as I will explain in this blog.
This might be a partial repeat for some, but here goes. I used to think that people who were well educated were also smart. I even thought that going to college made one smart. I was totally wrong. It seems that you are born with what ever your basic IQ is. You don't change it by going to college, but something can happen to you in college. What do you think that is? You learn all kinds of "algorithms". Exactly what is an "algorithm"? Is is basically a recipe or procedure that someone who was "smart" figured out so that people who were not smart enough to figure out their own "algorithms" could solve some problem, Are you with me so far?
How does AI come into all of this? Well, it is very simple. An AI computer programs can be coded so that it can follow an "algorithm" just like some college educated person. How simple is that? The only difference is that the AI program costs a lot less and it can follow the "algorithm" at the speed of light. When your kids today communicate with someone on the internet, do they invent new "algorithms" or just discuss existi ng "algorithms"? You know that none have invented new "algorithms"! They are not even sure if they are communicating with a real person or just some AI program. That is how far it has gotten today and it is moving at the speed of light. Nothing before has ever evolved at this kind of rate expect maybe when the universe was formed.
Now, I just about forgot about IQ in all of this. When a person is busy following an "algorithm" they are not "connecting the dots" to some other "algorithm" or concept. You know that. People with higher IQ's do often "connect the dots" and discover relationships to other facts. Algorithm people don't do this. They just keep on grinding on with "algorithms" invented by someone else. We used to need those kinds of people but not any more. They are and will be replaced by cheaper AI programs, but we will still need people who have higher IQ's who can invent more AI programs. Because some AI programs can look at all kinds of data they can infer from these relationships new "algorithms" that other of lower IQ can use. The problem is that we will need fewer and fewer of these people with higher IQ's than today and Darwin only gave us a limited supply. Those few will compete with better and better AI programs until in the limit only one will survive. Those of lower IQ's will have been eliminated long ago. Which one do you think will survive in the end and how long do you think it will take?
It can take a long time before the water behind a dam builds up to the point of flooding over, but how long does it take for all the water behind the dam to all be gone?
