There is a principle in the technical community called the "tall tent pole". The idea is that most situations are very complicated and that concentration the tall tent pole or most significant factor will have the most effect for you efforts. In this blog, you will see that the Green Movement is not properly focused.
Let's start off with some data to see if we can locate that tall tent pole. Human population, most agree is the source of any global warming. That is, the more people, the more global warming. Just where are all these people? China accounts for 18.47% of the worlds population and India another 17.70% while the USA accounts for only 4.25%. Now, let's look at the value we get for spending our wealth on preventing global warming. If we spend one dollar, how much does it benefit the USA? The number is $0.0425. That means out of very dollar we spend $0.9575 does not benefit the USA. Would you spend 96% of your school tax money to help someone in some other country? I don't think so.
I did not even take into account the fact that both China and India are much bigger polluters on a person per person basis than the USA. Our air and water is much cleaner now than theirs. You could claim that spending by the USA on global warming is like pissing in the ocean because that is how much good it does.
As pointed out above, the primary cause of pollution is population and the best measure of how well a country is doing to control the growth of their population is their median age. In that department China's median age is 38. Remember how China a few years ago limited families to only one child. Had they not done that China and the world would be in a much worse situation today. For the record, India's median aged population is 28, while for the USA, it is 38. It is clear that India needs to do a much better job. I don't think there is a single country in Africa where the population's median age is above 20! That means their populations are growing like a bunch of rabbits.
I have pointed out before, sometimes the best decision alternative may be to do nothing. If that is the case, what do you think would happen? What if we just took care of the citizens of the USA and looked after their interests rather than the rest of the world? If this global warming thing kept going, some places that are warm now would get warmer and some places that are cold would get warmer. I think you can see that global warming would help some and hurt others, so it is clear that global warming is not 100% bad. If the population kept growing under this scenario, eventually there would not be enough food to feed 100% of the world's population. What do you think would happen? Some may die, but the big thing is that female fertility would go down and the birth rate would go down until the world's population came back into balance with the supply of food. There is another thing. Places like the USA would survive much longer than most of the world, it we just stopped immigration and continued to be responsible about breeding more babies.
If you don't agree, how about looking at Ireland a few hundred years ago. The population of Ireland was stable for hundreds of years because they had limit of their food supply. They were near starvation and thus girls could not get pregnant so their population was stable. What happened to Ireland was that Columbus discovered the potato and now Ireland had plenty of food. Their population exploded and when they had a potato failure their larger population was out of food suddenly and many died or immigrated to the USA. If most of you did not know that, how can you judge what to do about this business of global warming and its impact?
The bottom line is that the USA is wasting our money on killing oil and coal jobs where we will not get any real benefits in the end while we promote immigration. This is the worst crazy thinking by people here in the USA who I thought were smarter. Which one of these people are you? I could have made an almost as good of an argument by asking how much you would pay today for a loaf of bread that you would not get for 100 years? Do the calculations if you can?
PS---The value that us USA citizens get for each dollar we spend is actually much less than the $0.0425 that I indicated above. That is because the USA is already one of the cleanest countries in the world and both China and India are two of the biggest polluters in the world. I would be very surprised if the USA got 1% of the value that we pay for. Does that tell you that the USA is one of the shortest tent poles and that China and India are the two tallest tent poles?
