We can learn a lesson from the past when Obama was President. Let's look at his Attorney Generals. One way to look at the process is to see if it is "biased" in any way. That means that was there some "bias" factor that was in the decision that most did not see. If you pick balls out of a pot that has equal numbers of Red and Black balls, you would expect that if one picked randomly that they would end up with an equal number of Red and Black balls. Does that sound logical to you? What if there was 90 Red balls and 10 Black balls in the pot and the person who picked 5 balls out of the pot and they were all Black, would you think that there was a bias going on? You can calculate the odds on something like that and here is how you do it.
The chances of picking the first Black ball is 10/100= .10. Picking a second Black ball is 9/99= .09. To pic all Black balls this far is .10 x .09 = .009. Just this far, it looks to me like something is going on here that is not totally random. If I kept this up the numbers would be even worse. I think that you can see how this works.
Now look at Obama and the fact that he chose two Black Attorney Generals in a row. Do you think he was racially biased? Let's take a look at the numbers. First we have to figure out who is in the pot. That means how many Black and non Black qualified candidates are in the pot. We know a few facts that we can use to estimate the makeup of the pot. Blacks are about 10% of the population and they attend college at no more than 50% of the rate of non Blacks. Now we are down to 5% of possibilities. Next, we know that Blacks graduate from Law School at no more than 25% of the rate of non Blacks, Now we are down to about 1% possibly qualified Black candidates. Now let's apply the same logic from above. That means the chances of picking the first Black Attorney General is 1/100 randomly without any racial bias. Now doing it two times in a row is .01 x .01 = .0001. Those look like very long odds /that Obama was not racially biased. Would you bet on that? I an not sure I would. (odds 1/10,000)
The point of this blog is to prepare you to judge Biden's choices for his cabinet to see if he is biased. You know that he will be biased by picking Democrats, but we accept that in politics, but most of us are against racial bias and we need to work actively against it when it happens.
