If you did not ever read the book, here is the most significant point that I took from the book. In this book about a primary election for a new President, the party had a person on the staff who was called a "Dust Buster". The job of the Dust Buster was to counter any attack on their candidate as soon as they could after the attack. When I first read this book, I did not appreciate the significance of this point.
Think of it this way. If there was a leak in a dam, should you wait until the leak gets worse before you take action to plug the leak? No! You should plug the leak as soon as possible. In the case of a political primary, there are attacks going on all the time from the opposition. If you wait until the bad news gets out and spreads before you act, it has to be clear that it will take a lot more effort to counter the misinformation. Remember the saying, "A stitch in time saves nine"? It is as true in politics as it is in almost everything else..
Now, for my punch line. Look at President Trump. When he is attacked, he strikes back immediately. For many of you think that this is a strange way to act, but it is not. Why wait until a problem grows and gets worse before you act? Most politicians that you have had experience with are too timid and they too afraid to act until they are 100% sure that action is needed. With that kind of strategy, the normal politician avoids acting too soon for fear of over reacting. For Obama, he used to take pride in avoiding doing anything that might look "bad". He did that by never doing anything. Most voters don't see the difference between "doing something" vs "doing nothing". Notice that Obama never said anything that was controversial? That was because he played golf often and did not do much. Obama was "normal" and President Trump is "different". Being "different" from "normal" does not mean President Trump is "bad".
What kind of voter are you? Do you think a President who avoids doing anything "bad" 100% of the time at the expense of doing anything "good" is the kind of President that you want? We don't live in an exact or perfect world, so get over it. We need to balance both "good" and "bad", knowing that it is the over all average that is the goal. President Trump is "not" a typical politician, so get used too it and appreciate what he is doing for you and me and the country.
