I don't really want to lower our standard of living, but we do need to understand what kinds of conduct does lower our standard of living. That is the point of this blog.
What we need is an honest debate on the subject of median family income and our standard of living. that is not based on political correctness. Are you tired like me of all this political correctness? If not, you should be. If we all go thru life not hurting any one's feelings, what kind of real honest life would that be? Here some of my "non" political correctness ideas.
People who are on food stamps or welfare should not have children. I think that about 50% of the children born in my area are from people who are on food stamps or welfare. This includes those children that are born out of wedlock too. If we are going to have citizens who are socially responsible, we are going to have to have an honest debate about this issue. Turning a blind eye, as we have been doing, is not going to correct the problem.
Parents are the most important role models for their children. It is not the schools. Schools might help, but only after the parents have done their jobs. I was a child once and know a little about how children feel toward their parents. Children emulate the conduct of their parents. Children follow the model of their parents in regard to religion almost 100%, so why don't you think that they also follow the model of their parents in other areas? If a child is born out of wedlock, the chances of becoming a responsible adult is less than 50%. If that is the case, why do we sit by and allow this to happen over and over again.
I am not an advocate of home schooling, but I do know that children who are home schooled get a better education than those in our public schools. That is not because the parents are better teachers, it is the fact that those parents are a stronger and better model than the public school teachers. There are very very few public school teachers who are competent enough to substitute for a good responsible parent. That is why putting more money into our public schools has not gotten the job done.
Why is it that most responsible citizens have been silent on the root cause of things that lower our over all quality of life? I think that it is that most of our citizens do not have enough back bone to stand up against political correctness if it is damaging our future to the extent that we all should know.
Look at the math. if our citizens who tend to be below the median income and education level have more children than those above the median income, doesn't it seem clear that that is going to "lower" our standard of living? There is a reason that most people are below the median family income and that can be traced to irresponsible conduct by them or their parents. I know that there are many cases where children born into this state have climbed out and done well, but those are not the majority. You can find examples of both good and bad, but those do not change the averages or the median. We need to focus more on the median family income and how trends in that factor affect our long term quality of life.

PS---After WWII, Russia gave families a bonus if they had more children. Russia lost millions of people during WWII and wanted to build back their population. That was logical for Russia, but not for the USA. We have been giving tax deductions for children for so many years that most people think that it is a "right". The bottom line is that if people who can not afford kids have too many, it lowers the median family income and the median quality of life for the USA. The two groups who are the worst are the illegal Latin Americans and the Muslims. If this keeps up the USA will become a third world country. It may seem hard hearted to poor people outside the USA, but it is kind hearted toward our own children's future. Which is more important to you?
