What do you think Donald Trump has in common with baseball? A lot more than you think and that is the theme of this blog.
Look at it this way. You are the coach of a big league baseball team and your team is up against a new pitcher from Russia who has a reputation of being able to strike out the best batters. Now, what do you do? Which batters on your team do you think has the best chance of getting a hit off this new pitcher and why? Do you have the idea ? When you look at your batters, you see that some have better batting averages than others. You also notice that some of your batters have more at bats in the big league than others. You have to make your choice so you pick your batter who has had the most success against the best pitchers in the big league. Is that what you would do?
When we look at the people who are running for President of the USA, they all have different batting averages and they have played in different quality leagues. Some have played with their own money. while most others have played with someone else's money. In the case of the candidates, some have never really been alone at the plate where they had to try to hit a fast ball from one of the best pitchers. Now look at the candidates again.
In the case of Donald Trump, he has faced some of the best pitchers in the world and has answered to boards of directors who were also among the most competent in the business world. Most of these other candidates never faced the best pitchers and only had to answer to voters whose qualifications only required that they were born in the USA and had blood circulating in their veins.
As the coach or voters, we can only guess at what challenging pitchers our new President will have to face, but I think that we all know that we want the person in the batter's box who has the best batting average against the most difficult pitchers. I know that Donald Trump keeps saying that he will solve the problems of the future and many people want to know "exactly" how he plans to do that. Before the fact, it is impossible to know "exactly" how you will do anything. There are facts about the future that can not be known in advance and thus it would be irresponsible to state "exactly" what you would do. That has been Trump's answer, the only competent answer.
Here is another example. I am a deer hunter and have shot a lot of deer, but I can not tell you "exactly" where or how I will shoot my next deer. I can, however, predict that I will shoot a deer before you shoot your "first" deer. Is that too simple?
