I just realized that the Moslem religion has take the "poison pill" just like the Christians. I think that I blogged before that when Christians separated into different churches that they took the "poison pill". Exactly what is the "poison pill", you ask? That is the subject of this blog.
Look at it this way. We have a bunch of Christian churches that are competing with each other to "save souls". Each wants to save as many as possible from Hell. The problem is that once they have a convert, some leave and go to other churches. It is a real problem. It is like a bunch of chickens going after the grain a farmer throws out. I think that you can picture the situation. One day one of the wise preachers comes up with this great idea on how to keep converts. He proposes that his church claim that they are the only ones who really know the way to Heaven. All other churches have it all wrong and if you follow them, you will end up in Hell. As you might have expected, this scared the pants off the church members so that they would never switch to a different church. It worked. As it turned out, it was a "poison pill" because they could no longer get converts from other churches because they also adopted the "poison pill" too. I think you can follow how this happened.
Now to the Moslems. Just like the Christians, they had all kinds of groups who had different ideas about how to get to Heaven and avoid going to Hell. Just like the Christians, each group wanted to save as many souls as they could. If the person could not be converted, the Moslems did not see it as a waste to kill them since they knew they were going to Hell any way and why not just speed up the process. As a result, we now have all these different Moslem groups who have the only path to Heaven and each wants to bring this to 100% of the rest of the world.
In the old days, the whole world to the Moslems was just their small area of desert, but not it is really the whole world. Now look at this from a different angle. Since all the other Moslem groups are on the wrong path, they are no different from Christians who are also on the wrong path. This is why each groups of Moslems sees no difference in killing another Moslem who is in a different group from themselves as they do killing a Christian. It looks confusing to westerners who come from a tradition of Christian religions being tolerant of one another Christian groups or churches.
The final point about the "poison pill" concept is that is has the affect of killing "all" religions who accept the concept. Think about it? If we have 1,000 different religious groups around the world and only "one" can be right, that means that 999 are wrong. How would you like to bet on which one was the right one with those odds? I think you can understand that when religions adopted the "poison pill" that it killed their own religion in the process.
Remember human nature. It is not going to change. From the very beginning humans wanted to have power over others and that desire has taken many forms. Religion is just one. In their greed, most did not think beyond their own narrow interests and adopted the "poison pill" and thus, in the end, killing the very thing that they desired.
