I know that you have heard this a million times. Green energy has such a high cost that it will bankrupt the country. Don't think so? I am going to use my 4th grade math to show you the facts. I know that most of you are mystified by the numbers on your PG&E bill. Most of you have no idea what a kilowatt hour is. That is a fact and that is the reason that most of you have been taken in by Obama and his green friends. Here are the numbers so you can make up your own mind.
I get my power from a small coop, but it is the same for most of you. I pay $0.15/kwh. I think that is about average. My coop is a little more advanced and will sell me "interuptable" power for half price or $0.075/kwh. They do this to balance their load. Interuptable power is power that is not guaranteed to be available 24/7. The power company reserves the right to cut this type of power off for a few hours a day when necessary. I use this power to heat water and home heating. In a pinch, I can go without power for a couple hours to heat water or my home so it is worth it to get the savings. The reason that I bring this point up is the fact that power that is not available 24/7 is not worth as much as the power that is available 24/7. This is a critical point because solar and wind power are "not" available 24/7 and thus are only worth the price or cost of interuptable power. In my case, this is $0.075/kwh retail or only about $0.015/kwh wholesale. Now for some math.
Next, a key point. Obama has passed a law that power companies have to buy power from solar and wind generators at the "retail" price vs "wholesale" price from coal and natural gas power plants. This means that your power company has to pay $0.15/kwh for power that is only worth $0.015/kwh or 10 time his normal cost. Now what do you think your power company does next? He passes the extra cost onto you. Most of you don't understand your power bill, so you have no idea what is happening. The fact that we get less than 1% of our power from solar and wind power means that the impact on us users is small, but it is also so small that it does not make us independent of imported energy either.
The impact is a lot more than you might think. Here are the numbers. Assume that the power company sell power retail at $0.15/kwh. Further, assume that they have to by law buy 1% of their power from solar and wind generators at retail prices or $0.15/kwh. Assume that they can buy interruptable power for $0.015/kwh wholesale and full time power for $0.02/kwh. Now we have the numbers that we need. Before the new law, the power company purchased 99% of their power for $0.02/kwh and 1% for $0.015/kwh and sold it all for $0.15/kwh. Now what has changed with this new law?
By calculation the weighted average of the cost of power before the law, the power company pays at wholesale $0.01995/kwh for their power. With the new law that requires them to buy solar and wind power at retail, their power now has a weighted cost of $0.0213/kwh. Does this look like a big deal? Yes, it does! The net impact is that the power now has a cost 6.77% more than before. This cost is next passed onto you and you don't even know it. That is the bottom line.
I have two basic problems with this scam. First, are we so stupid that we did not know what was going on and that we would be the ones who got it in the neck in the end? Yes, we are that stupid so get used to it. Second, why don't our power companies speak up? They all know what is going on and that this whole business of green power is stupid, but they sit silent. Why? Are they cowards? My guess is that they have no back bone and many are just little cowards and don't care about what is best for our country.
If after reading this, you still don't have an opinion about green energy and what it is doing to our economy, I don't know how to help you either. You could at least think about the future of your children. That is what most Americans have done for the past 300 years. Have we changed that much?
