This whole business is a real hot potato. Obama has a hot potato that he can't handle. It is very interesting how all these snakes keep coming out of Obama Care. I don't think we will see the end for years. Most people seem to be focused on the decision by Obama to force the Catholic Church to offer abortions to anyone working for them even though it is totally against the church's teachings. My concern is the fact that we are "not" asking the right question. Now what is that? You thought you knew what was going on didn't you? Well, think again.
The real problem here is that the President can even make these kinds of decisions or interpret the laws passed by our reps in a way that is totally against our wishes. That is the real problem. What our congress did was to give a blank check to the executive branch to write the details of the law they passed. It is kind of like a parent giving their kids the family credit card and telling them to not spend it on junk food. No parent would do that, yet that is exactly what our congress just did. Now, Obama says that he will let the Catholic church out of the program, but that is not the solution. The solution is an actual law that prevents Obama and any other President in the future form making any religious group from paying for abortions. If we let Obama off just letting the churches "opt out" does not prevent him in the future from changing his mind. All these exemptions are in the same category. They could be canceled at any time by a Obama or a new President. We don't want to have to fight this same battle again in the future.
What our congress needs to do is to "sun set" all the regulations or delegations of authority to cabinet departments. If they don't, in the future Obama or a new President could veto any new law that limited the authority of the executive branch. Look at Obama care, it could never pass today and Obama can prevent any thing that the congress could do to repeal it. To repeal Obama care, the congress would need a super majority to over come a Presidential veto.
Now, I think that you can start to see the problem that our congress created when they gave blank check authority to the office of the President. They need to start taking that authority back. It may take a while, but that is what is needed. Now do you see that most of us and the Catholic Church have not been asking the right question?
Look around and you will see that this same problem is every where in our government and it is going to take courage and time to correct it. Where are the Republican candidates on this serious question? Total silence.
