Einstein worked his whole life on his "Unification Theory". He saw that all concepts in science and nature were related and he spent his life trying to figure out how. As it turns out, this concept is universal and has its applications almost every where. When one of these Unification Theories comes along, it is a very bright day. I am not the sharpest knife in the drawer, but for me I stumbled onto one of these unification concepts and I think that it is worth sharing. This might get a little boring to some, but when you think deeply about it, it is elegant. Here goes.
I am a pilot and a sailor and have had to study weather in more detail than most. Wind is one of the most important weather considerations for both pilots and sailors. We need to start this off by asking, "what causes the wind and why?" Easy question and I am sure you have hear it before, but did you ever answer the question? Before you can have wind, you first have to have some kind of atmosphere and we have that here on Earth. Seems easy. Next you have to have gravity to hold the atmosphere onto the surface of the Earth or it would float away. We have that too. Finally, you have to have uneven heating and cooling of the atmosphere. We have that too and it is done by the Sun and the fact that the Earth rotates. I know you are thinking, "where is this going?" Wait, I'll get there. Now where does the wind come from? It is simple. The wind is the action of the atmosphere trying to get "equalized" that was caused by the uneven heating and cooling. Hot air rises due to gravity and is replace by cooler or more dense air. The process of "equalization" never stops because the Earth keeps rotating and the Sun keeps heating different areas of the Earth. Without the wind, all life on the Earth would end. We need the wind. I think that you could figure out why we need the wind for us to survive on the Earth. Aren't we lucky?
If there was no wind and the Sun just shined on one area all the time, that area of the atmosphere would get hotter and hotter until all the atmosphere was driven into space and the Earth would be a dead planet just like the Moon that never turns in its relationship to the Earth. We need wind and the unequal heating and cooling that causes the wind. This business of the atmosphere always trying to equalize is just what we need. The thing that we do not need is for the atmosphere to ever finally get equalized. If that were to happen, life on the Earth would come to an end. There you have phase I. Now what is phase II of the Unification Theory? That's next.
What is going on on Wall Street right now? We have a bunch of people rioting that they want everyone to be equal. They want to eliminate the wind that makes life as we know it impossible. Wait, what am I talking about? What makes the air from one area going to another area? That is wind. What makes a person work harder than the person sitting right next to him? Like uneven heating and cooling of the atmosphere we have uneven wealth and quality of life. If everyone were equal, at what level of wealth or quality of life would that be? Never hear anyone talk about that point do we? Would it be that we all had fancy cars? How about big yachts or private airplanes? I have those and would not be satisfied with less. Would we all work like slaves and go without to accumulate the wealth needed for the quality of life that some of us enjoy? I started out at the bottom as a charity case in the hospital and lived under a bridge and wore hand me down closes and shoes that did not fit. If we were all even and it was against the law to excel, what would be the end game? Would you work harder than the person next to you if you ended up just like him or her? Would you work harder if everything extra you earned was taken away and given to some one who did not work as hard? Exactly how hard does everyone have to work to be equal?
Did you ever watch a bird making a nest? Every bird that I have ever seen making a nest seemed to be trying as hard as they can to make the very best nest that they can for their expected new babies. Why would humans want to be any different? Did you ever see a bird look over at the next bird's nest and seem to say that mine is equal or good enough. I don't think so.
As a kid, I hated Kings and Queens because they were rich and it was not because they had worked for it. Further, every one under their control had "zero" chance of ever climbing out of the hole that they were in. This is the way that it was for thousands of years. Look at the Bible and you will see that they even used the model of the "King". People used to have to beg the King for things, just like they pray to God for similar things now. The model that we have is "equal opportunity" and "unequal" distribution of wealth and quality of life. The difference is that the "unequal" distribution of wealth and quality of life is always changing. It is not static as in the King and Queen model. That's the difference. Why would someone chop down trees and clear land if it was going to take most of their life and in the end, the land would be farmed by some stranger rather than their own kids?
As a parent in a world where everyone was equal, what would be the incentive to get your kids to do well in school knowing that the laziest kids would have every thing that your kids had? See what I mean? It is this unequal distribution that makes our world go around and supports our general level or quality of life. Just like the uneven heating and cooling of the Earth's atmosphere makes our physical world go around, uneven distribution of wealth makes our economic system go around.

PS---I was discussing my "unification theory" with some friends and we agreed that it is in parallel with the concept of Entropy. If you don't know what the concept of Entropy is, look it up. In the case of wind, Entropy is the wind taking the atmosphere to the lowest energy state. Human economics is the fight by humans against economic Entropy which tends to prevent the accumulating wealth.
