Obama's speech was one of the worst that I have ever heard. First off, Obama does not even know what the real problem is. His mouth and his "Red Line" is a problem, but it is not the real problem. Now, what do you think the real problem is? Is it the fact that Syria used poison gas on their own people? Nope, that is not it either. It is a problem, but still not the real problem. So, what is? That is the point of this blog.
The problem is that no country wants to side with us on punishing Syria for using poison gas. When Bush attacked Iraq, he had about 35 countries on his side. Obama does not have any. That is the real problem. Why is it that no countries want to go along with us? Why isn't Obama working harder to get other countries to help carry the water on this one? The vote by our congress one way or the other is not the solution. It is a "Red Herring" and I know it, but I am not sure that Obama is smart enough to also know it. Why is it that no other countries want to help us? I am going to try to answer that question.
After WWII we went around the world putting our nose into every conflict with almost a religious fever to "save" the world. It is not a lot different from what we are doing now to save the world from Global Warming. As we sent our army around the world into every conflict, all the other countries started backing off. If we were going to be the world's policeman, why did they all need big armies. Armies cost money and by eliminating or significantly down sizing their armies they could increase their quality of life. Spending on an army could be diverted to social welfare programs. That is exactly what most of them did. This has left us hold the bag, pure and simple. They used this "one time" savings to expand government programs, but the savings were just a "one time" deal. After they had created the welfare state, where were they going to get "more" money to expand it further? That is the next problem that by us being the world's policeman has created. Most of the world has gotten a free ride on us and they like it. Now when the chips are down, none want to come forward to help the one who originally helped them. Isn't human nature great!!!!
There is a serious lesson that can be learned from all this and that is "helping" someone can have negative consequences. It happened with cheap student loans, cheap home loans, food stamps just like it has with the USA acting like the world's policeman. Even dogs seldom bite the hand that feeds them. Sorry that I can not say the same for us humans or countries.
